Internalised consumerism

While people go on about internalised homophobia, I think a bigger issue is big city gays’ internalised consumerism. Many seem to have a mentality that they dont appreciate the person and behave as if the city is a big supermarket and people are products.  Added to that a shopping cart of refined search attributes on the latest dating sites, and there you have it: I’m out to get the perfect product - test drive for a night or two, and then carry on ad infinitum.

Consumerism

But the mechanism is precisely its enjoyment, the kick, the thrill, it is not even the person or for that matter anything to do with anything else - its the pleasure of the excitement of “conquering” another “new” guy, because really, in their soul, there is a big emptiness - and this is just a distraction from engaging and doing something about it.  Happy hunting!
